Guided Walking Tours in Tuscany:
San Gimignano - Treasures of Central Tuscany

The remarkably preserved town of San Gimignano is surrounded by rich fertile land producing the famous white Vernaccia wine. San Gimignano's prosperity was due to its position on the Via Francigena, a pilgrim route from Northern and Central Europe to Rome. It is famed for its many tall towers and fourteen still exist today. We will visit an excellent museum that has recreated San Gimignano as it was at its peak. Walking in Tuscany is not only glorious but also historically interesting and this is highlighted in central Tuscany.

After walking through the quiet countryside with fabulous views of San Gimignano and arriving back later in the afternoon, you experience the essence and beauty of this magnificent town of towers. Sunsets from the Rocca, views from the walls, wine tasting, shopping, exploring back lanes; you have it to yourself.

Walking Grades

Our walks are designed to be enjoyed and manageable for everyone with average fitness. Certainly it is hilly and we walk in and out of hilltowns. There are occasionally short steep sections. For this reason we recommend hill walking prior to coming not only on the flat.

Via Walking grades the walks in both walking hours and distance. We plan walking times on an average of 3.5 kilometers per hour.

The walks vary between easy to medium. The medium rating generally covers walking up to a hill town or a longer distance.
