The remarkably preserved town of San Gimignano is surrounded by rich fertile land producing the famous white Vernaccia wine. Olive groves, vineyards and family gardens grow up to the walls in many places. San Gimignano’s prosperity was due to its position on the Via Francigena, a pilgrim route from Northern and Central Europe to Rome. It is an understandably busy place during the day. Be assured however, that after walking in the quiet countryside with fabulous views of San Gimignano, arriving back later in the afternoon, you experience the essence and beauty of this magnificent town of towers. Sunsets from the Rocca, views from the walls, wine tasting, shopping, exploring back lanes; you have it to yourself.

Walking Grades
Our walks are designed to be enjoyed and manageable for everyone with average fitness. Certainly there are ups and downs and occasionally steep sections. For this reason we recommend hill walking prior to coming.
More walks than days are included. We suggest a schedule of walks balanced between length and ease but you have the option to be flexible depending on weather and how you feel
Via Walking grades the walks in both walking hours and distance. We plan walking times on an average of 3.5 kilometers per hour.
The walks vary between easy to medium. The medium rating generally covers walking up to a hill town or a longer distance.
