Situated in the beautiful hilly region between Florence and Siena is Radda in Chianti. Its ancient wall’s recently restored are a perfect spot to view Chianti sunsets. You can see the hills surrounding Florence in the distance.

The structure of the medieval village is still intact. The town grew up elliptically around the 14C church of San Nicolò and the Palazzo Pretorio.

Radda is the smallest of the three Hilltowns. Because of its size you very quickly become assimilated into rhythm of the town.

Your walking routes pass by the priories of San Giusto in Salcio and S.Maria Novella, through small hamlets of Poggio San Palo, Badia Montemuro, Lamole, Volpaia, Vertine, and finally the larger towns of Castellina and Gaolie which form the Chianti League with Radda.

Your first view of remarkable San Gimignano will be the stunning sight of the remaining 14 towers of the original 76 towers. It is a magnificently preserved medieval town that has had many changes over the centuries.

Your walking routes in Central Tuscany will take you through areas of historical significance. Walking on pathways and quiet back roads, on sections of the Via Francigena pilgrim path, via the medieval Hilltowns of Monteriggioni, Certaldo, Colle di Val D’Elsa, Abbadia di Isola, plus Pieve di Santa Maria a Cellole and Il Santuario di Pancole.

After walking, there is plenty of time to visit and explore San Gimignano’s historical sights, climb the “great tower” built in 1311, explore the quiet twisting lanes or sit on the Duomo steps and observe life passing by. For shopping enthusiasts you will not be disappointed, there is a good variety of specialty shops.

In the evening, the stonework and tunnels are softly lit and it is a joy to explore without the crowds.
