Guided Walking Tours in Tuscany:
Montalcino - Hilltown Gems of Southern Tuscany

From the walls of Montalcino are panoramic views across the famous valleys of Orcia, Ombrone and Asso. Also clearly visible are the towns we will walk to and explore: Montepulciano, Pienza, Monticchiello, San Quirico d'Orcia and the Abbazia di Sant' Antimo.

There is also much to explore in Montalcino with its steep stone streets offering picturesque views, gardens and orchards, excellent museums and churches.

The strong vibrant community of Montalcino is based on the famous Brunello wine, produced only in the surrounding region and considered one of Italy's finest. This is reflected in the town shops, catering for a complete range of produce, the necessities a local community needs plus interesting shops for the traveller.

Walking Grades

Our walks are designed to be enjoyed and manageable for everyone with average fitness. Certainly it is hilly and we walk in and out of hilltowns. There are occasionally short steep sections. For this reason we recommend hill walking prior to coming not only on the flat.

Via Walking grades the walks in both walking hours and distance. We plan walking times on an average of 3.5 kilometers per hour.

The walks vary between easy to medium. The medium rating generally covers walking up to a hill town or a longer distance.
